Register to Vote
Voting is every citizen's right and obligation. It is important that you make sure your
voice is heard on election day. Here's how to register to vote:
To be eligible to vote:
- You must be a United States citizen.
- You must be 18 years of age by the date of the election.
- You must live at your current address at least 30 days prior to an election.
- You must not be in jail, or on parole, for a felony conviction.
- The Board of Elections must receive your registration application 25 days
prior to the date of election.
- You must not claim the right to vote elsewhere.
You can register to vote in the following ways:
- By Mail
- In person at the Board of Elections
- When you apply for or renew your NYS drivers license or ID card at any
Department of Motor Vehicles Office
You can also pick up an application at any post office, library or motor vehicle
office. If you need an application sent to you, e-mail your mailing address to vote@boe.nyc.ny.us or call toll-free 1-866-VOTE-NYC.
